Masquepony
The teams at Kendal Arts International and
Manchester International Arts (who present the spectacular Lakes Alive
programme) have been chomping at the bit to announce Masquepony, the UK’s first
street arts festival with camping in the Lakeland village of Cartmel from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 August 2012.
Masquepony promises to be a festival with
a difference, with over 60 shows including street theatre, comedy, music, circus and
fireworks. There will be world and folk music and workshops that the whole
family can enjoy, including a digital funfair.
There will also be an array of marquees, tents, big tops and yurts to explore
across the beautiful Lakeland venue.
It’s the first street arts festival in the UK that will include the opportunity to
camp on site (or at least we think it is!). During the course of the three-day event, visitors will be
able to pitch their tents at Cartmel Racecourse, where the event is being held, with views of the stunning
Lakeland fells.
Festival-goers will also be able to explore the medieval village of Cartmel
which has a reputation as a foodie heaven. The village’s cobbled streets feature
a Michelin-starred restaurant, a popular Artisan market and Cartmel Village
Shop, home of the legendary sticky toffee pudding.
It’s an opportunity for you and your family and friends to immerse yourselves in
the extraordinary, inspiring and sometimes a little crazy world of street art
in a truly breathtaking setting.
Entertainment begins from early evening on Friday and concludes on Sunday evening, although campers can arrive from Thursday at 4pm and stay until we close the site at 12 noon on Monday.
Tickets for the festival will be on sale this spring and full details will be posted in February on the new Masquepony website so click here to access the site or sign up to the mailing list (top right of this page) to have full details about this and the rest of our programme sent to your inbox.
